I've been taking Niacin 500mg TR Tablets for a few weeks now to help improve my cholesterol levels. I've heard that the controlled-release form is supposed to reduce side effects like flushing, but I'm curious if anyone else has experienced any of the more severe side effects like liver problems or allergic reactions. I'm also wondering if taking aspirin before the niacin helps with the flushing. Has anyone tried this? I'm a bit nervous about the potential for serious side effects, so I'd love to hear about everyone's experiences.

I've been on Niacin for a while and the flushing is really bad. I take aspirin 30 minutes before, but it doesn't always help. Be prepared for that!

I've been taking Niacin 500mg for about six months now and I haven't experienced any severe side effects. I do get some flushing, but it's manageable. My cholesterol levels have improved significantly, so I'm sticking with it. Make sure to talk to your doctor about any concerns you have.

I had a really bad experience with niacin. I started getting really dizzy and my heart was racing. I immediately stopped and went to the doctor. Turns out I was having an allergic reaction. Scary stuff!

I've heard that eating a handful of almonds before taking niacin can help with the flushing.

I typically have a glass of wine with dinner before taking my niacin because my doctor said it might help with the flushing.

Serious question: how long does it take to see improvements in cholesterol levels?

I had a similar experience. The controlled release did help but I still felt like I had a sunburn every now and then. My doctor advised me to continue my aspirin regimen. It was a bit of a pain but it's was worth it in the end.

I've taken niacin for years and never felt anything but a bit of flushing. But the difference in my cholesterol numbers is worth it. I had to avoid eating certain foods since some do interact with niacin negatively. But I do find that taking it with food seems to help a lot.

My doctor recommends niacin to all his patients because it works. But he always tells them to start at a lower dose and work their way up.

I was on it for a while and then switched to a different medication. The flushing was too much for me to handle, even with the aspirin trick. But I did notice my cholesterol levels improved while I was on it. So it might be worth it for some people, but not me.
