Has anyone experienced severe side effects from taking Zovirax 200mg? I'm concerned about the potential risks.
I was recently prescribed Zovirax 200mg for a herpes zoster outbreak. The medication has been effective, but I've read about some scary potential side effects, including kidney problems and serious blood issues. Has anyone else dealt with these side effects? I'm trying to understand the risks better and whether I should be worried or not. Also, what long term effects could it have since I am otherwise fairly healthy?

A close friend experienced some pretty severe side effects, including hallucinations and confusion. She had to stop taking Zovirax right away and switched to a different antiviral. Definitely monitor yourself closely.
I had a friend who had to be hospitalized due to kidney problems from Zovirax. It's rare, but it happens. Make sure you stay hydrated and go to your doctor if you have any symptoms.
Serious question: If you experience any of the severe side effects, how quickly do they usually appear after starting the medication? Is it within the first few days? A full week?
I had a really bad reaction to Zovirax – mood changes, hallucinations, the whole nine yards. I was hospitalized and had to switch to a different antiviral. It was terrifying, but I'm doing fine now. Be careful!
I had a mild allergic reaction – just some itching and a rash. My doctor switched me to a different medication, and it was fine. It's frustrating that different people react so differently to the same drug.
