Has anyone experienced significant side effects from using Pilocarpine 1% Ophth Soln 15ml eye drops for glaucoma?
I've recently been prescribed Pilocarpine 1% Ophth Soln 15ml eye drops to manage high pressure inside my eye due to glaucoma. I understand that it helps by improving fluid drainage and reducing eye pressure, but I'm a bit concerned about the potential side effects. The most worrying ones mentioned in the patient information are the rare but severe ones, like allergic reactions or retinal detachment. I've been experiencing some blurred vision, especially in low light, which is to be expected, but I'm wondering if anyone else has had more serious issues. How have you managed any side effects, and should I be worried about the more severe ones mentioned in the drug information? Do any of you have experience with this drug and how has it worked out for you?

If you're noticing any severe eye pain or changes in your vision, don't wait—go to the ER. Better safe than sorry. I had a minor retinal tear, but got emergency help and they managed to stop it from progressing. The doctor said the timing was just right.
I switched to Pilocarpine after trying other medications and it did wonders for my eye pressure. Just be aware it will make your pupils small. It is not the most pleasant thing. I need more light than usual when I read, or drive at night. I keep a flashlight at my bedside.
The blurriness is annoying, but it is temporary. I've learned to deal with it by avoiding driving or intense reading right after using the drops. The side effects I find more annoying are the headaches, but they go away after a few hours.
Pilocarpine can be a lifesaver, but you have to be vigilant about the side effects. I've had a couple of episodes where my eyes felt irritated, and one time my eye redness was extreme. I called my doctor and she recommended a temporary pause in medication, and we adjusted the dosage. Now it's much better.
