I'm scheduled to start a course of Tigecycline (Tygacil 50mg Inj, 1 vial) for a serious bacterial infection and I'm quite worried about the potential side effects. The list of possible severe reactions is long and scary, including severe allergic reactions, liver problems, acidosis, and even raised pressure in the brain. What are the chances of experiencing these urgent side effects? Should I be more worried about the severe, rare reactions or the more common ones like diarrhea and stomach pain? Has anyone had a positive experience with this medication? Any advice or personal stories would be greatly appreciated.

I had a really bad reaction to Tygacil last year. I got a rash and my throat felt tight. It usually comes on quickly, so if you feel anything strange, get to the ER.

It’s common but not something to be too worried about. Just keep in touch with your doctor.

I was put on this for a chronic lung infection. I had severe diarrhea alongside my treatment and I was pretty much bedridden for a week. I am on a strict diet now to regain my health.

This medication saved my life but at a cost, my stomach never recovered, I cannot eat well now and every meal is accompanied with tremendous stomach pain. But it worked on the infection. It is a tradeoff.

I was on Tigecycline last year for a bad infection, and I can say it was tough. I experienced some of the common side effects like diarrhea and stomach pain, but nothing severe. I was constantly on the lookout for the more serious symptoms, but thankfully, I didn't experience any of those. Just keep a close eye on your symptoms and communicate with your doctor.
