Hey everyone, I'm scheduled to have a CT scan soon and my doctor is using Visipaque 320mg/ml Inj, 50ml as a contrast agent. I've read the paperwork and it seems pretty intense, with possible severe skin reactions and thyroid symptoms. Has anyone had this done? I want to know what the actual experience was like, especially if you had any symptoms. I especially feel nervous about the kidney and allergic reactions because a family member had kidney failure due to a contrast agent.

I just found out I have to have one tomorrow. I'm a bit nervous about it now that I've read this

I had Visipaque a few years back and surprisingly had a very bad case of the chills and sweating

Is it possible the other contrast agents are less harsh? I had one a few years back and felt nauseas for a while, but no other issues.

I'm a nurse and I've seen a few patients have reactions, but it's rare. Most people tolerate it just fine. Just make sure to communicate openly with your doctor about any concerns. They should be able to talk you through it while you're there.

Had this last year and it was awful. I got a really bad rash and had to take antihistamines. My doctor said it was a mild allergic reaction. I'm still not sure if I want to do it again.

I've had it several times and no issues. I think the key is staying hydrated. I was told to drink lots of water before and after the procedure.

I work in radiology and we use Visipaque all the time. It's generally safe, but like any contrast agent, there are risks. We always have emergency protocols in place. The best thing you can do is stay hydrated and let your doctor know about any allergies or kidney issues.

I had this a few months ago. I was really nervous too because of the side effects listed. I'd recommend drinking lots of water before and after to keep your kidneys running smoothly. I didn't have any major issues but the injection site was a bit sore for a day or two.
