Has anyone taken Nitazoxanide 500mg Tablets for giardia or cryptosporidium? What was your experience?
I was prescribed Nitazoxanide 500mg Tablets for a particularly nasty bout of diarrhea caused by Giardia. I've read that it works by stopping the growth of these parasites, but I'm curious about others' experiences. Did you find it effective? How long did it take to see improvements? What side effects did you experience, if any? I've heard of people having to deal with things like headaches and stomach pain, but I hope to dodge those bullets. Any tips or warnings from those who've gone through this?

I had a friend who took Nitazoxanide and had a severe allergic reaction. She ended up in the ER with hives and trouble breathing. If you start feeling weird, go to the hospital. Better safe than sorry.
I have to report any side effects to my doctor and report to the FDA at 1-800-332-1088. From my research, it's really important to call the doctor if you have a rash or trouble breathing. Don't take any chances with stuff like that.
I didn't have any side effects and the medication worked well for me.
I had a bad allergic reaction to it. Had to go to the ER for swelling in my throat. Scary stuff. Be careful and monitor yourself closely if you decide to take it.
Be prepared for some weird urine color changes. It's normal with this med.
