Just wanted to share that my kiddo was diagnosed with impetigo, which is a highly contagious bacterial skin infection. The doctor prescribed Altabax 1% Ointment 30gm. They said it treats the infection by stopping bacteria growth. I am wondering if anyone else has used this medication? I would love some feedback and assurance. The potential side effects worry me. I'm hoping it's the best way to go, but I do not want to risk anything. I have been seeing other parents on forums mentioning they had to take their kids back to the doctor for other reasons (such as redness, bloating, etc). So I am looking for some info on what to expect and possible side effects. Can anyone share their experience and/or some tips for applying the ointment? Thanks!

I used Altabax for my daughter's impetigo and it worked wonders! No side effects at all. Just make sure to apply it as directed and keep the area clean. Make sure to wash your hands before and after application.

I thought I was having an allergic reaction at first. Turns out it was just irritation from the ointment itself. It went away after a few days. Stick with it if you can handle it, it will work

I haven't used Altabax a few times now. The last time it took about 4 days to see improvement, and then we were in the clear. Just make sure to apply it as directed and keep the area clean. It's a pain, but it works.

I had a bad experience with Altabax. My skin got really red and itchy. I had to stop using it and switch to something else. Be careful and monitor for any adverse reactions. I did not like this at all. I would use this as a last resort, or not at all.

How long did it take for the impetigo to clear up? I've heard mixed things. I don't want to be applying this stuff for months. This is so inconvenient, I hope it works quickly.

Altabax is really effective. I've had multiple cases of impetigo, and I've never had any bad side effects. I do wish the ointment was less greasy though. I can't wait to see how this works, I've never been prescribed anything for impetigo before. I'm guessing it will be the same. What a mess!
