Hello! I've been prescribed Nitrofurantoin Mono/mac 100mg Caps for a UTI. I'm curious about how often this needs to be taken for it to be effective. My doctor didn't specify a lot of details so I'm looking for some concrete info from others who have taken this. At what intervals should it be taken? Any other tips on making this medication work best?

I've had to take this before and it's nasty stuff. I had to deal with stomach pain but it cleared the infection. Make sure you know the signs of more serious side effects. I didn't experience any, thankfully.

I take this every time I get a UTI and it always works. Just make sure you drink lots of water too, it helps flush your system out.

Were you given a prescription for a 3 day course or a 7 day course? It makes a difference on how you will feel after. The 3 day course is better IMO because it can drastically cut down the side effects though you need to make sure to finish the entire bottle.

idk why you'd upvote the guy who said it was ok to stop early... but don't do that. Make sure you've finished the entire course prescribed. It's important.

Make sure you finish the entire course, even if you feel better. I had a friend who stopped early and the UTI came back worse.

I had to take it for 7 days. I was taking it with food and while it worked well for my UTI, I had to deal with diarrhea. The burning sensation was so intense that I had to double up on the stool softeners to try and get relief. Have a bottle of Imodium handy just in case!

I had to take this for 10 days straight. As long as you take it with food, you'll be fine. I never had any stomach upset, so you might be lucky too!

I had a severe reaction to this med. I developed a rash and had trouble breathing. I had to go to the ER and they said it was an allergic reaction and to never take it again. Be careful if you have any allergic reactions.
