I was recently prescribed Hytrin 1mg Capsules (Terazosin) for both high blood pressure and an enlarged prostate. The doctor explained that this medication helps by relaxing blood vessels and muscles in the prostate and bladder, which should help with urine flow. I've been on it for a few weeks now, and I'm noticing some changes, but I'm also a bit concerned about the side effects. Has anyone else had experience with this medication? I'm curious to know about both the positive effects and any side effects you might have encountered. Also wondering how it compares to other BPH medications out there, like Flomax. Thanks for any insights!

Be really careful with this one, folks. I had a guy I know who ended up in the ER because of priapism. Terrifying experience, and it definitely put a damper on things. Anyway, just be aware, and seek medical attention if something seems really wrong.

I've heard that Terazosin can cause some pretty bad orthostatic hypotension. Be careful when you stand up, especially if you’ve had a few glasses of wine! Make sure to take it at the same time every day, and don’t skip doses. It's all a bit of a pain, but if it helps, it's all worth it.

I actually was given a prescription for Hytrin but refused to take it because I have a dizziness issue. I really hate getting that feeling, not worth it. What are the long term side effects? I have a friend who has taken it for years. I'm hoping the side effect list isn't long.

I've had no issues with my Hytrin capsules. It's been a godsend. I started off with a lower dose and then worked my way up. I had no dizziness or anything like that. I think maybe it's the way I've worked up to my current dose.
