Hey everyone, I was recently hospitalized and received Dextrose 10% Injection 1000ml IV for fluid and energy balance. I saw the list of side effects and it's pretty scary! I know all medications have side effects but this just seemed daunting. Does anyone have any experience with this IV and ability to tolerate it? I had a really bad reaction to the injection site. It got really irritated and painful. The nurses had to switch the injection site and I had to take some pain meds. It sucked.
I've had Dextrose injections before and didn't experience any of the urgent side effects. Just a bit of discomfort at the injection site. Hang in there.
I've had Dextrose before and the worst I got was a bit of a headache. I didn't think anything would happen.
I had a friend who got severe dizziness and fainting during the infusion. It was pretty scary to watch. She had to be monitored closely by the nurses.
Dextrose injections are common in hospitals. If you experience any severe side effects, notify your doctor right away. I can't imagine having a severe reaction from the injection but it is possible. Usually, the worst I got was a bit of discomfort around the insertion site.
Dealing with severe fluid and electrolyte problems is no joke. If you feel any of those signs, definitely call your doctor. I went through this once and it was terrible.
Have you reported any side effects to the FDA? They take this stuff seriously.
