I've just been prescribed Doxycycline Monohydrate 150mg Tabs and honestly, I have a lot of uncertainties. I know it's an antibiotic, and it works to stop bacterial growth. My doctor said it can be used for respiratory or urinary tract infections, skin issues like acne, rosacea, and even STIs. I’m a bit worried about the side effects. Should I be concerned about these common adverse effects, like diarrhea, upset stomach, or vomiting? And if there are serious side effects, what are they? I want to be prepared and treat them properly. Also, how can I go about reporting side effects? Any advice or personal experiences would be much appreciated!

I took Doxycycline for a UTI and it cleared it up in no time. Just make sure to finish the full course even if you feel better. Also, avoid dairy products while on it as it reduces the effectiveness of the medication.

I’ve been on Doxycycline a few times and the diarrhea was definitely the worst part. Just make sure you stay hydrated and take an over-the-counter anti-diarrheal if it gets too bad. I ended up having to stop the medication temporarily so that I had a chance to recover but then I resumed it shortly after that. The good news is that it was temporary and did not reoccur after that.

This thread has some good advice. I slipped up on the sunscreen once and got a nasty sunburn. Definitely worth the extra vigilance.

Yep, diarrhea is common and can be pretty unpleasant. But it’s usually not severe. I know taking antibiotics can mess with your gut, but it did not affect me seriously. Drinking a lot of water and eating a bit less fiber helped.

Oh, and take it with food. It can be hard on your stomach otherwise.

I didn’t know it could cause increased pressure in the brain. Definitely something to keep an eye on. Headaches are common but you shouldn’t dismiss a sudden onset of vision issues too easily.

Doxycycline can increase your sensitivity to the sun, so wearing sunscreen and protective clothing is essential. Also, the drug can interact with certain medications, such as birth control pills. Just be cautious and consult your doctor if you’re unsure.

Definitely watch out for signs of an allergic reaction. I had a friend who took Doxycycline and ended up with hives all over. Scary stuff, but she was able to get medical help in time.

I took it for acne and it worked wonders. Just be prepared for some sun sensitivity; use sunscreen whenever you go outside.
