Just received Oxacillin 2gm Inj for an infection - anyone with experience with this antibiotic?
I've just been prescribed Oxacillin 2gm Inj, 1 Vial for a serious staph infection that's resistant to other antibiotics. I've never had to take something this strong before. My doctor explained that oxacillin kills the bacteria by interfering with the formation of the cell walls, but I'm still feeling a bit nervous about potential side effects. I had oxacillin for a really bad infection too. I had a weird rash, but my doc said it was pretty normal. Just make sure to report any side effects to your doctor right away.
What kind of stitches did you have before you started this medication? I know some antibiotics interfere with stitches.

I had a really rough time with it. I had severe stomach pain and diarrhea, but the infection was serious so I had to stick with it. Just be prepared for some rough days.
Hope it works for you. I had a bad infection and it did clear it up. The side effects were annoying, but I had to get rid of that staph infection.
I'm not surprised it's being prescribed for resistant strep. It's what I heard is the only thing that works for some of the resistant strains of the bacteria.
I've had oxacillin before for a severe staph infection. It was intense, but I got through it. Make sure to drink lots of water and rest. Also, keep an eye out for any signs of an allergic reaction. If you do experience any, don't hesitate to go to the ER.
This medication is no joke. Be sure to keep hydrated and monitor everything. My friend took it and had a hard time with diarrhea and stomach issues, but I think the side effects are worth it if the infection is serious.
Be careful with this one - I've heard it can mess with your liver. If you start noticing dark urine or yellowing of the skin, get to a doctor ASAP. Those are signs of liver problems.
