I've just begun treatment with Elahere 5mg/ml Inj, 20ml Vial, a targeted cancer medicine that combines an antibody with a chemotherapy drug. The idea is that the antibody finds and attaches to specific proteins (called FRα) on cancer cells, delivering the chemotherapy directly to kill them while sparing healthy cells. I'm hoping to hear from anyone who has gone through this treatment. What were your experiences with the side effects? How did you manage them? Were there any surprises? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I got really sick on my first treatment. The nurse took my vitals every 10 minutes for 3 hours. I had several reactions during the chemotherapy. I had a fever, some chills, cough, and shortness of breath. I had to have the treatment stopped and given some antihistamine and hydrocortisone. It was a little scary, but I pulled through just fine.

I dreaded the neurotoxicity side effects, but I haven't had any yet. Fingers crossed it stays that way!

I've read that some people have had really bad side effects with this drug. It's scary, but remember that everyone is different. I've been on it for a while now, and I'm doing okay. Keep that hope!

Be prepared for some serious side effects. I had a burning sensation in my hands and feet, but it went away after a few weeks. Keep communicating with your healthcare team. Hang in there! ❤️

I had a similar experience with a different targeted therapy. The infusion reactions were rough at first, but my doctors helped me manage them with pre-medication. Stick it out; it gets easier.

Can anyone share what the infusion process is like? I'm trying to mentally prepare myself.
