I was recently prescribed Fragmin 15,000iu/0.6ml for prevention of blood clots and I am struggling with the side effects. The injection site has become really irritated and it's been difficult to manage. I've read that some people experience more severe side effects, and I'm worried about that. Has anyone else dealt with this? I'm also curious about the best ways to administer the injections — any tips or tricks would be greatly appreciated! I've been told to rotate injection sites, but I'm not sure how often or in what pattern. Any help would be awesome.

What are your dietary and exercise habits like? Those can affect how you react to medications too. I know when I started taking Fragmin, I had to cut back on my workouts and cut out all alcohol. I'm fine now, but it was tough at first.

Avoid muscles. That's what happened to me. Stabbing a muscle with a needle sucks.

It took me a couple of weeks to find a pattern that worked well for me. I rotate my abdomen, right side, left side, then thighs. I also found that injecting at a 45-degree angle helps. You might also want to ask your doctor about switching to a smaller dose – they may be able to prescribe you a lower dose if you are having such a hard time managing the injection site irritation. It can be hard to manage these injections at first, but it gets easier with time. Hanging in there!

How quickly did your injection site irritation improve?
