Just started Hycamtin 1mg Capsules for small cell lung cancer - any advice?
I've just begun taking Hycamtin 1mg Capsules (Topotecan) for my small cell lung cancer. I did a lot of research on the possible side effects before starting, but I'm still feeling really nervous. I know it's supposed to help shrink tumors, but I'm worried about the potential side effects, especially the severe ones. Has anyone else had experience with this medication? I'd love to hear about your experiences, both good and bad. What helped you cope with the side effects? Were there any surprises I should be prepared for?

I had to deal with severe diarrhea on my second day of symptoms. I ended up in the ER, but my doctor said it is common among patients who take this medication. When you get to day 3, make sure you get checked out immediately and even if the symptoms like diarrhea or vomiting are mild, consult your doctor.
I read these comments at 3 am last week after a rough day. It was very difficult to keep down any water or food. I hope I get to talk to you all soon. I'm not there yet, but I will be. This medication is supposed to help us. That's what I keep telling myself. It's going to work for me. It's a best case scenario. I wish you the best. Keep moving forward. Fight the good fight.
I'm so sorry you're going through this. Hycamtin can be rough, but it's important to remember that it's designed to fight the cancer cells. You'll have good days and bad days. Keeping a positive mindset and surrounding yourself with support is crucial. If you ever need someone to talk to, feel free to message me. You're not alone in this fight, and I know you will be fought.
I was on Hycamtin for a few months. The nausea was rough, but my doctor gave me some meds to help with that. Stay hydrated and listen to your body. It's tough, but you got this!
