Just started Levoxyl 0.05mg (50mcg) for hypothyroidism - What should I expect?
I've just been prescribed Levoxyl 0.05mg (50mcg) tablets for hypothyroidism. I'm a bit nervous about starting a new medication, especially one that affects hormones. Has anyone else taken this? How long did it take to feel better? What side effects did you experience? I'm particularly worried about the more serious symptoms and if anyone can share their personal experiences or expertise that would be great. Thanks in advance!

I had some hair loss in the beginning but it grew back. Just be patient, it can take time for your body to adjust to the medication.
I heard hair loss can be a real bummer. But I think it’s worth mentioning that you can also get swelling and other changes on the thyroid and it’s not always the medication. Keep an open dialogue with your doctor.
I've been on Levoxyl for a few months now and it's been a game-changer. It took about 6 weeks to start feeling like myself again. Stick with it, but definitely talk to your doctor about any concerns.
I went from symptomatic to symptom free in about 3 weeks of Levoxyl 50mcg. The only side effect I noticed was having to pee every 20 minutes during the day! No big deal now though. I think it may have been because I was making adjustments to my diet and exercise.
I've gained some weight while on Levoxyl. I've heard it can do that, but it might just be my diet and lack of activity. I wish I had energy to work out. I hope this helps someone.
Be careful with dosage adjustments. I had to go through a few before finding the right one. My advice? Stay in close contact with your endocrinologist.
I am only on 37.5 mcg, but I’ve been on it for a while though. I think the dosage is maybe *too* little for me. I’m going to have to go to 50mcg and will ask my doctor next time.
I had the opposite, actually—I lost a few pounds. But I also switched to a healthier diet and exercise routine. It's hard to say what was the real cause, but I feel great! My pituitary is feeling a little better too! A Duke Endo encouraged me to make changes.
