I was recently diagnosed with Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency (AATD) and my doctor prescribed Prolastin-C 1000mg Inj, 1 Vial. I'm a bit nervous about starting this treatment, especially since it's made from human blood. I've read about the possible side effects, but I'm curious to hear from others who have experience with this medication. What should I expect? Any tips for managing side effects or making the treatment process smoother? Also, how often do you need to get the infusion? Thanks in advance for any insights!

I just had my first infusion yesterday. I was really anxious, but the nurses at the clinic were great. I had a bit of a headache and some fatigue afterwards, but nothing too bad. It's a lot easier than I thought it would be.

Yea, just drink lots of water and rest, the treatment is a pain but worth it. It's a shame that insurance doesn't cover it 100%.

I'm glad I found this thread. I just got my first prescription for Prolastin-C and I was feeling pretty nervous about it. Thanks for the insights, everyone!

Be sure to talk to your doctor about any other medications you're taking. Some things can interact with Prolastin-C. But there's a good chance you can still have a drink on weekends. I always have my favorite drink on the weekends, even before my treatment. It's definitely worth it to get back to normal, I get so tired of feeling sick all the time.

I've been on Prolastin-C for a few years now. The infusions are a bit of a hassle, but they've definitely helped my lung function. I get them once a week. Side effects for me have been minimal—just some headaches and muscle pain sometimes. Drink plenty of fluids and rest up after the infusion.

I have a friend who's been on this for a while. He says the key is to stay hydrated and listen to your body. If you feel bad, rest. If you feel okay, keep doing what you're doing. The infusions can be tough, but they really help with lung function. I think he said he does them once a week too. He got his last refill at Prolastin-C speciality pharmacy
