Hello, Reddit! I was prescribed Tekturna HCT 300mg-25mg tablets for my high blood pressure, and I don't know what to make of it. The doctor says this combo of aliskiren and hydrochlorothiazide will do the trick, but what about the side effects? I've been on it for a week, and I'm already feeling a bit dizzy. I've heard even more scary things like kidney problems, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, and even skin cancer. Has anyone else had experience with this medication? Should I stick it out, or should I be looking for alternatives? What are some safe practices to minimize scary side effects? This seems like a loaded gun now that I'm looking into it...

Be safe! This stuff is tricky. Make sure to listen to your body, and follow up with your doctor regularly. If it's making you uncomfortable, it doesn't matter how much it helps the blood pressure if you feel worse, right?

I was on this a few years ago, and I had a weird feeling in my body. It was like dehydration or something. I went to the doctor and he said it was probably the drug so I had to stop taking it. But then I switched to something else and it felt a lot better.

All of these comments are freaking me out. I'm going to have to speak with my doctor about it, and see what steps are available to mitigate the risk. Can anyone recommend an alternative?

I've heard about this drug for a while - the risk of Stevens-Johnson syndrome is definitely scary, and worth keeping an eye on. I am also on something simlar for my high blood pressure, and I found that a lot of the side effects went away after a while. It helps to speak with your doctor about any side effects you experience.

Be careful! I had a friend who ended up with Stevens-Johnson syndrome from this medication. Make sure you keep an eye out for skin reactions and don't be afraid to call your doctor if you spot anything worrying

I had a similar experience. The dizziness went away after a few weeks, and I haven't had any major issues. But I agree with the other commenter - keep a close eye on your skin and any other symptoms. It's better to be safe than sorry.

Wow, no thanks. I switched to something else after experiencing the electrolyte issues but I'm not sure what that was, it could have been the Tekturna. All I know is that my doctor told me to get my kidney function checked every few weeks.
