I recently had cataract surgery and my doctor prescribed Lotemax SM 0.38% Gel Drops. I've been using them as directed, but I'm experiencing some discomfort and I'm not sure if it's normal. The drops are supposed to stay on the eye surface longer for better effect, but I'm feeling like there's something in my eye constantly. Has anyone else had this experience? The description I read said it was possible even though rare. I'm getting a little nervous. I just want to know if this is something to be concerned about or if it's just a normal part of the healing process. I've also read about some serious side effects that I hope to never encounter, but it's got me a bit worried. Can anyone share their experiences with this medication, especially regarding side effects and how long it took for symptoms to resolve?

I can't believe you're worried about a steroid. I had steroid eye drops after a corneal transplant and they were fine. Don't get paranoid about all the side effects. Eyes are super sensitive. If you get blurry vision or pain, it’s probably normal. Don’t overthink it. Go see your doctor, they’ll advise you

I had a weird reaction to Lotemax, too. My eye turned red. It was crazy, but it passed. You should take care of yourself.

Make sure you're not mixing Lotemax with any other eye drops unless your doctor says it's okay. I made that mistake once and it was a nightmare. Don't ask me how I know.

I had cataract surgery a few months back and my doctor prescribed Lotemax as well. I was so nervous about the pain and side effects, but my experience was pretty smooth. I did feel like there was something in my eye for the first few days, but it went away after that. I didn't experience any serious side effects, but I did have some mild discomfort, as you mentioned. According to my doctor, Lotemax is generally well-tolerated, but individual experiences can vary. I'd suggest giving it a few more days and if the discomfort persists, definitely contact your doctor. Also, make sure you're administering the drops correctly—that can make a big difference in how well they work and how comfortable you feel. Hang in there!

It's worth mentioning that Lotemax is a corticosteroid, which can have some serious side effects if not used correctly. I've seen cases where people have developed glaucoma or cataracts from steroid eye drops. It's rare, but it can happen. Just be aware and keep an eye out for any changes in your vision or eye health. It’s important to report side effects to the FDA as well. It helps them track these things and make sure medications are as safe as possible.
