I've been prescribed Mannitol 20% Inj, 500ml for treating swelling in the brain. I'm curious to hear from others who have used this medication. What were your experiences like? Did you encounter any of the severe side effects mentioned, like allergic reactions or kidney problems? I'm particularly concerned about the signs of fluid and electrolyte imbalance. How did you manage any side effects? Did you notice anything that the pamphlet didn't mention? My doctor mentioned it works by drawing extra fluid out of these areas and increasing urine production, which does make sense, but I'm still nervous. Details appreciated!

I can't believe how many side effects there are. I was pretty shaky during treatment and had to take it slow and sure. Stay hydrated, but it's tough when you're peeing so much, but you get used to it.

Great thread, OP, I'm curious too--did you notice any changes in your vision? I was worried about the acidosis symptoms, but luckily I didn’t experience any of them.

My sister had to get Mannitol when she was in the hospital for a bad concussion. She was really worried about all the side effects, but she only had some mild headaches and dizziness. She complained about everyone using the restroom a lot.

I've had Mannitol before for a similar issue. The most noticeable side effect for me was excessive urination, which they warned me about. Make sure to stay hydrated but not excessively

If you're worried about side effects, talk to your doctor about monitoring your kidney function regularly. It's crucial to catch any issues early, and it's a good idea to be proactive.

I felt lucky compared to many others, only diarrhoea and runny nose. Here's hoping for a speedy recovery! Take care!

Be prepared for a lot of bathroom trips, as Mannitol is essentially a diuretic. Also, keep an eye on your electrolytes, especially potassium. I had to supplement to maintain a balanced level and avoid muscle cramps

Mannitol is a life-saver when you need it, but do be aware of the risks. Things can get really bad if you're not careful. On my first dose, I had a pretty severe headache and some dizziness.

Make sure to tell your doctor if you have any history of kidney issues or allergies. It's always better to be safe and have a plan in place just in case.
