I've been prescribed Metronidazole 500mg tablets for a bacterial infection and am curious about the side effects. I took Metronidazole for a dental infection a few years ago. I didn't experience any severe side effects, but I did have a metallic taste in my mouth and some stomach upset. It was pretty manageable, and the infection cleared up quickly.
I think nervous system problems are rare, but they can happen. I had a friend who developed a tingling sensation in her fingers and toes. She stopped taking the medication and it went away. Just be vigilant and listen to your body.
I don't know why they don't give you enough information with your prescription!
I've had to take Metronidazole twice for bacterial infections and had pretty bad nausea and diarrhea both times, but my doctor said the symptoms should go away after a few days. I also started getting tingling in my hands, which they said is a rare side effect. It went away after I finished the course though. It's important to monitor for anything that seems off, especially if you're taking them for a long time.
Be careful with this one. I had a friend who ended up with a really bad skin reaction from Metronidazole. Red, swollen skin and all that. She ended up in the ER.
Metronidazole is pretty common, and I've found it usually works well for infections, but it's always best to call your doctor if you have any doubts. I've read that severe skin reactions are rare, but they can happen and should be taken seriously.
I took this for a stomach infection and the metallic taste was intense! I was constantly drinking water to counter it.
