I was prescribed Miconaz-Zinc-petro Ext Oint 50gm for my baby's persistent diaper rash that just wouldn't go away. I keep seeing Zinc Oxide mentioned as a skin protectant. What does this mean exactly? Does it have any benefits? I know Miconazole is the antifungal part, but I'm curious to know more about the second ingredient.
I've got a friend who swore by this stuff for treating athlete's foot. The greasy ointment does seem to take care of fungal infections that other treatments might not. But, I do think it may be overkill for diaper rash. It's a bit more potent than what most parents might need.
This is a pretty detailed description, but it's not enough to make it clear how often the ointment should be applied, or how long it should be kept on for. I think more details on usage and application would be beneficial. Has anyone tried this ointment for different skin conditions? What was your experience?
I never even heard of this before, It's a good thing to know about. Medical care for kids can be so expensive, I hope this doesn't cost a ton.
