I've been using Acyclovir 5% Cream for my recurrent cold sores, and I've found it to be quite effective in reducing the duration and severity of outbreaks. However, I've noticed some side effects like skin irritation and burning sensations. I've read that these are common, but I'm curious if anyone else has experienced them and how they managed them. Also, I'm wondering if anyone has had any issues with allergic reactions or if there are any long-term side effects I should be aware of. Any insights or experiences shared would be greatly appreciated!

I had a really bad reaction to Acyclovir as well and had to get checked out by a doctor. It turns out I was applying it way too often. Stick to the directions and you should be fine.

Thanks for sharing your experiences. I’ve been avoiding going to the doc to deal with my cold sores lately, but maybe I should. It’s so frustrating to deal with them.

I've used Acyclovir for years and have found it to be a lifesaver for my cold sores. I apply it as soon as I feel a tingle and it usually stops the sore from fully developing. I've never had any severe side effects, just a bit of stinging at first.

I've been using Acyclovir for about a year now, and I haven't noticed any long-term side effects. However, I do get occasional itching and dry skin, but it's manageable. I also make sure to moisturize the area after applying the cream.

I've heard that using a lip balm with SPF can help prevent cold sores. Has anyone tried that in combination with Acyclovir?

I'm curious whether anyone has had any long-term side effects from using Acyclovir regularly. I've heard it's safe, but I'd love to hear from people who have been using it for a while.

I’ve never had any issues with Acyclovir, but I’ve heard that some people have trouble applying it correctly. Make sure you wash your hands before applying it and don't touch the affected area too much. Also, apply it every 4-6 hours if you can.

I just started using Acyclovir and I'm not sure if it’s working. I applied it as soon as I felt the tingle but the sore still came out full force. Did I do something wrong?

I had a bad reaction to Acyclovir once. I got hives all over my face and had to go to the ER. It was terrifying. I'd advise anyone to be cautious and watch for any signs of an allergic reaction.

Acyclovir helped me a lot. It’s brutal when you have a cold sore and you don’t want to look like a monster at work. Just put it on when you first feel it coming on. It also works great for genital herpes. The only side effect I've had is some dry skin, but it’s nothing I can’t deal with. Better than the alternative!
