I've been prescribed Nafcillin 2gm Inj, 1 Vial for a serious staph infection, and it's been a lifesaver. However, I've experienced some side effects that I'm not sure are related. Has anyone else taken this and had any issues beyond the usual? I'm particularly concerned about the delayed allergic reactions and kidney problems mentioned in the leaflet, but I'm not sure if my symptoms are worth worrying about. Are any of you nurses or docs who can shed some light on this? I want to be sure I'm not overreacting, but I also don't want to ignore something serious.

I've been monitoring my urine output and haven't noticed any drastic changes, but I have had some mild stomach pain and a bit of diarrhea. I'm not sure if this is normal or if I should call my doctor. I've also been feeling a bit tired, but I figured that was just the infection and the medication working. Is it normal to feel so run down?

Again, I'd appreciate any input from those who have taken this medication or have medical knowledge. I just want to make sure I'm taking care of myself properly.

I had a similar problem with the injection site, and it took a few days of ice and analgesics to calm it down. It’s a good idea to call your nurse if you notice any of these side effects; although it can feel alarming, it’s common. Also, side effects like diarrhea can be troubling, but they're usually manageable unless you have accompanying stomach cramps and bloating. Check with your doctor if this happens frequently. It can be a sign of something more serious — C. diff. However, if you just have loose stools, that's probably just the antibiotic doing its job. This is why I always take a probiotic to replenish my gut flora after finishing my antibiotics.

I had a bad reaction to penicillin years ago, so I always avoid Nafcillin. My doctor has to prescribe something different when I have a staph infection. My heart goes out to people who have to go through this.

Thanks for the heads up, hope it works out for you. Remember to stay hydrated, it helps flush out toxins and keeps your kidneys happy.

OK so I had to take this for an infection and I had a lot of irritation and pain at the infusion site. It was super uncomfortable but my nurse said it happens. I had to apply ice pack and a wrap to help with the swelling and numbness.

Nafcillin can definitely cause some serious side effects, but it's also incredibly effective against staph infections. I've seen it work miracles in my patients. Just keep an eye on those kidney issues and if you start noticing any signs, get to your doctor ASAP

Yeah I think the fatigue is just from being sick. How long have you been on it?
