I was prescribed Omega-3-acid 1gm Capsules (rx) to help lower my very high triglyceride levels. I've been taking over-the-counter fish oil for a while, so I'm wondering if the prescription version is worth the extra cost. Does anyone have experience with both? How do they compare in terms of effectiveness and side effects? I'm also curious about the dosage and how it should be taken. My doctor didn't give me much detail on that. Is it better to take it with food or on an empty stomach? Any insights would be greatly appreciated!

I've been on the prescription version for a few months now, and it's definitely made a difference in my triglyceride levels. I take it with my evening meal, and so far, I haven't had any major side effects, just a little burping sometimes. I did try the over-the-counter fish oil first, but it just didn't cut it for my high levels. Worth the extra cost for me, but everyone's different.

Be careful with the dosage! I made the mistake of taking too many at first, and I ended up with a pretty bad upset stomach. Stick to what your doctor recommends, and don't try to adjust it on your own.

I've been on Omega-3-acid 1gm Capsules (rx) for a few years now, and it's been a game-changer for my heart health. I've had no major side effects, just some minor burping. I take mine with dinner, and it seems to work well that way.

I wish my insurance covered the prescription version. The over-the-counter stuff is cheaper, but I'm not sure it's as effective. Has anyone found a good generic or store-brand alternative to the prescription version?

I think it's worth discussing with your doctor if you're considering switching from over-the-counter to prescription. They can help you weigh the pros and cons based on your specific health needs.
