I've been taking Prilosec 20mg capsules for a few weeks now to manage my acid reflux and I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced some of the side effects mentioned in the medication guide, such as headaches or nausea. I've also had some concerns about the more severe side effects, like electrolyte imbalance or kidney problems. How common are these? Is anyone else on here taking this medication, and how have you been managing the side effects? Trying to decide if it's a medication I can safely take long-term.

It's true that some people experience severe side effects and it can be scary. I've heard stories of people going to the hospital because of Prilosec. What are the chances of that happening to me?

I've had good and bad experiences with this one. Took it for about a week before my doctor switched me to something else. I know someone who has been taking it for over a year with no problems. Check with your doctor for sure, but my experience was not great.

I've been on Prilosec for years and haven't had any major side effects. I had a bad case of headaches for the first week, but they went away after that. I make sure to eat smaller meals and avoid spicy foods to keep my reflux under control.

I had a really bad experience with Prilosec. I started getting severe chest pain and shortness of breath. Turns out I was having an allergic reaction. I've switched to a different medication and haven't had any issues since. If you experience any severe symptoms, get to a doctor right away.

You might want to consider talking to your doctor about switching to a different medication or reducing your dose. For me Prilosec works wonders for my heartburn, but I did experience some nausea at first.

Definitely talk to your doctor. I was given Nexium for my acid reflux and it seemed to work just fine but I had to stop because I could barely walk. I think it was terrible side effects from the medicine. The good news is that Nexium is over 90% effective.

I think it's important to know about the long-term effects before taking any medication for a long period. But in some cases, it's worth going through the short-term side effects if it means treating a serious condition.
