I recently started taking Primaquine Phosphate 26.3mg Tabs for malaria prevention. I know it's effective, but I'm a bit concerned about the side effects, especially the severe ones. Has anyone else taken this medication? What was your experience like? Did you encounter any of the serious side effects mentioned, like methemoglobinemia or abnormal heartbeat? I’m planning to travel to a high-risk area soon and want to be well-informed. I’ve read the medication guide, but I’d love some real-life insights. How did you manage any side effects, and what precautions did you take? Thanks in advance! Please, please, please share your experiences and any tips you might have.

Dizziness and fatigue are common, but the worst part for me was the stomach discomfort. Make sure to stay hydrated and take it with food if possible.

I’ve heard some horror stories about this drug, but for me, it was manageable. Just keep in touch with your doctor and don’t hesitate to call if you notice any weird symptoms.

Be very careful with this one. I had a severe allergic reaction and ended up in the ER. It's rare, but it can happen. Symptoms came on suddenly with tightness in the chest and trouble breathing.

Take note: this drug can be dangerous for people with G6PD deficiency. Before starting, make sure you get tested for this. It's not worth the risk!

I'm on Primaquine too, and I’ve heard that keeping a close eye on your body and knowing the signs of methemoglobinemia is crucial. If you notice any unusual tingling in your skin or blue discoloration, don’t wait—get to a doctor right away!

I believe the best thing to do is to report any side effects you experience to the FDA. This helps them keep track of the medication's impact and potentially update guidelines for others in the future.

Are there any alternative medications to Primaquine? I'm looking to avoid it due to the potential serious side effects but need something to prevent malaria.
