I recently had surgery and was given Propofol to put me under. I didn't experience any side effects, but I'm curious if anyone else has had a different experience. I know it's fast-acting and wears off quickly, which was great for a speedy recovery. But the potential side effects are scary, especially the risk of Propofol infusion syndrome (PRIS). I've read that this can be life-threatening. Have any of you or someone you know had a bad reaction or known someone who experienced complications? Up until recently, I thought Propofol was fairly harmless as it's so commonly used. Now I'm not so sure. I think it's important for us all to be aware of the risks associated with this drug. If you have any stories or advice, please share them below!

My grandfather was in the ICU for a while and was on Propofol for sedation. The doctors monitored him closely for any signs of PRIS. Thankfully, he was okay, but it was a scary time. I appreciate the info on side effects. Thanks for sharing!

I had an allergic reaction to Propofol once. It was terrifying. I woke up with hives, wheezing, and my throat felt like it was closing up. My nurse had to give me an epinephrine shot. I'm really glad I was in a medical setting at the time.

I had a procedure where they used Propofol and I woke up feeling like I was hungover for a few days. That never changed even if it's a fast acting anesthesia.

I've worked in the ICU and seen patients on long-term Propofol drips develop PRIS. It's a serious condition. Symptoms like confusion, muscle pain, and abnormal heart rhythms are a huge red flag. If anyone notices these in a loved one, get medical help ASAP.

I had a friend who had Propofol and woke up coughing so hard they threw up. It was all the nurses could do to keep him safe. He was okay, but it was scary to see. I remember him saying he felt so weak and dizzy for a few hours after.

This is why I always make sure to ask my doctors about all possible side effects before any procedure. Knowledge is power, right? Better to be prepared than to be surprised by something that could be serious.

This reminds me, has anyone had tissue damage from a Propofol leak? I had a procedure where the IV site got pretty swollen and red. It was sore for a while, but thankfully, it healed up okay.

I think the fast recovery is worth the risk, but people need to be aware of what could go wrong. I've had both good and bad experiences with anesthesia. I just want to know that if something does go wrong, the staff is prepared to handle it.
