I just had a procedure where Tetracaine 1% Inj, 2ml was used for spinal anesthesia. I was awake but couldn't feel anything below my waist for hours. It was weird but also fascinating to experience. I'm wondering, has anyone else had this and what was your experience? Also, the side effects list is pretty intimidating. Has anyone encountered any of these issues? I'll be honest, I was a bit nervous about the rare but serious side effects. How common are these really, and what should we be most concerned about? I know it's important to keep an eye out for allergic reactions, but what about the other symptoms? I'm curious to hear from anyone who has had this before, especially if you've had a bad reaction. Also, what should we do if we notice any of these symptoms after the procedure? I've heard that doctors typically monitor you closely afterwards, but what if you're already home? Does anyone know if there are any long-term effects from this stuff?

The constricted pupils part is interesting. It’s a sign of a systemic reaction and you should probably let your doctor know immediately. It’s a bit hard to spot unless you’re looking for it, so be vigilant and don’t suffer in silence. Even if it’s just a small thing, tell the medical staff as soon as you can.

I'm a nurse and I've seen a few reactions to this stuff. Mostly just lightheadedness and dizziness, which usually goes away quickly. But I've seen one case of severe allergic reaction. The patient broke out in hives and had trouble breathing. It was scary, but we caught it in time and she was fine after treatment. Always better to be safe and inform your doctor if you have any concerns.

I had a really bad reaction to Tetracaine a few years ago. I started feeling really weak and dizzy, then my lips turned blue. It was terrifying. I ended up in the ICU for a few days. Turns out I have a rare condition that makes me sensitive to certain anesthetics. Docs said it was a lucky catch. If you feel anything weird, get help immediately. It's better to be cautious.

I had a friend who had a similar experience. She said the worst part was the numbness lasting longer than expected. She couldn't feel her legs for almost 6 hours. She was fine eventually, no serious side effects, but it was a bit unnerving as she didn’t know it would last so long. She was monitored closely, though, so that helped.

This is what they used on me when I had knee surgery. Honestly, I was asleep for most of it, but I remember not being able to move my legs when I woke up. It was surreal. But yea, the side effects are scary. My doctor said the serious ones are really rare, but if you experience ANY of them, go to the hospital ASAP. Don’t mess around with stuff like seizures or severe chest pain.
