My sister is a pharmacist and she always says to be careful with antacids because they can mess with how your body absorbs other medications. So if you're taking other meds, make sure to talk to your doctor.
I've been using Citric Acid Sodium Citrate Solution for a while now and it's been a game-changer for my kidney stones. I used to get them pretty regularly, but since I started taking this, I've had none. The taste is a bit off, but it's worth it. No major side effects so far, just a bit of nausea sometimes.
I had a bad reaction to it. I broke out in hives and my tongue swelled up. Went to the ER and they told me it was an allergic reaction. Scary stuff! I had to avoid any medications that contained citric acid from then on. If you notice any of those symptoms, go to the ER asap!
I take it for acid reflux and it works great. No more burning sensation in my chest. I do get diarrhea sometimes, but it's not too bad. Just make sure to stay hydrated. I've also found that taking it with food helps a lot. Just make sure to follow your doctor's instructions or you might end up in the ER..
Could this be used as a preventative for those with a family history of kidney stones?
I've read that it can also help with UTIs because it makes your urine less acidic, which makes it harder for bacteria to grow. Has anyone else tried it for that? Curious to see if it helps with recurrent UTIs.
