I've been prescribed Zovirax 200mg/5ml for a recent outbreak of shingles and so far, I've been curious about the side effects I've read about. My doctor said it's similar to other antiviral medicines, but has anyone gotten severe side effects like kidney issues? I've had a few mild symptoms like stomach upset and fatigue, but otherwise, it seems okay. Has anyone else had issues with this medication, or any tips for making it more bearable?

I had a bad reaction to Zovirax. I started feeling dizzy and shaky. I thought I was having a heart attack! Turns out, it was just the medication. Scary stuff.

I would be more worried about the behavioral changes and neurological symptoms than the kidney issues. Those sound really serious. If it was me, I would call the doctor at the first sign of confusion or hallucinations.

Who else hates the taste of this stuff? I had to mix it with juice to get it down. I'm willing to put up with that if it helps with the shingles, but still...

I had shingles a few years ago and my doctor prescribed Zovirax. I didn't experience any serious side effects but it did help manage the outbreaks and reduce the duration. If you develop a rash, that's a sign to call your doctor immediately. It's always best to be cautious.

The side effects sound scary, but I took Zovirax for a bad case of genital herpes last year and never had any problems. Just make sure to stay hydrated and take it with food to avoid stomach issues.
