My experience being put on 50mg Quetiapine for bipolar disorder.
My psychiatrist recently started me on 50 mg Quetiapine at bedtime. I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder a few years ago, and I'm hoping this will help manage my manic episodes more effectively. My question is to anyone else who has been on this before, what should I expect? I've heard it can make you really sleepy. How long does that last? Anyone else notice any other side effects that aren't listed on the prescription info? Thanks!
I started 50mg quetiapine at bedtime as an add-on treatment for my depression and, knock on wood, I've been doing well with it so far. My doctor warned me that it might make me sleepy, and she was right! The first couple of weeks were rough, but I'm getting used to it now. I actually find it helpful for getting a full night's sleep. I did have some dizziness and dry mouth but it's not bad, nothing serious. I'm just hoping it keeps working as well as it has been! I've read that some people gain weight on this medication, so I'm trying to stay active and eat well to keep that from happening. In my experience, it's always important to keep in open dialogue with your mental-health professional.
